Tourist in my own city

Yesterday, I got to be a tourist in my own city by visiting the Cloisters. I’ve lived in NYC almost 5 years, and somehow I’d never made my way up to Fort Tyron Park to visit this branch of Metropolitan Museum of Art. The museum and gardens, according to the Met website, are “devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe,” and were assembled from “architectural elements, both domestic and religious, that date from the twelfth through the fifteenth century.”

When my friend Surkhab, who was visiting from Toronto this week, suggested meeting up with some people there, I was excited—one of my new years resolutions had, in fact, been to see more NYC sites (one a month), and this was a great one for October. Aside from the gorgeous view of the Hudson the museum and gardens are full or fascinating art and artifacts. I took a ton of pictures.

We really lucked out with gorgeous weather! It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon!

Once it got dark out, I made my way to Astoria to meet up with friends for dinner at HinoMaruin Astoria. After a crisp fall day spent outdoors, it totally hit the spot.
