Newport Folk Festival, 2011
I spent last weekend at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island. I hadn’t been since 2005, and I had such a great time! Two days of music, complete with gorgeous weather, definitely fell into “everything I could ask for and more” category.
We stayed in a lovely bed & breakfast called LaFarge Perry House. The innkeeper, Midge, makes the best macaroons I have ever had. She also put out a lovely breakfast spread every morning. In addition to cereal, baked goods like scones, and fruit, guests could also order one of the breakfast offerings of the day, such as banana pancakes, French toast, or eggs benedict.
Each morning we were there, my mom and I took an early walk. If you go to Newport, make sure you check out the Cliff Walk! The view is gorgeous.
The festival lineup this year was great. A few of the acts I saw (there were 3 stages, so I couldn’t see everything) include the Decemberists, Delta Spirit, Gogol Bordello, Wanda Jackson, Tegan and Sara, and Amos Lee whom I had never listened to before. He ended up being one of my favorites of the weekend. I also caught a little of M. Ward‘s set. 
I saw some of Elvis Costello‘s set from backstage. He put on a great show, as always. If you’ve never heard “Sulphur to Sugarcane,” it’s a really fun song, and was perfect for this kind of show. 
The performers had a kick-ass view. Those of us on the ground certainly weren’t suffering, though!
Of course, there was plenty of food to be had at the festival. Though we brought some snacks like fruit (and plenty of water), it was easy to just go with the flow.
Even when my strap broke near the end of the first day, I just went with it. Chris turned the charm from his wristband into a makeshift safety pin. He’s crafty like that. 
There were lots of acts I wanted to see more of, but there just wasn’t enough time! I’m already looking forward to next year. Here’s to hoping my schedule works out so I can go!
